The Mount View strings program includes 4th, 5th, and 6th grade students. Starting in 4th grade, students have a chance to learn how to play violin, viola, or cello. All strings students perform in the winter program, and 5th and 6th graders have a chance to perform in the Area Concert at Benson High School.
The Mount View band program includes 5th and 6th grade students. Starting in 5th grade, students have a chance to learn a brass, woodwind, or percussion instrument. All band students perform in the winter program, and they also have a chance to perform in the Area Concert at Benson High School.
List of band instruments:
Brass: Trumpet, French Horn, Trombone, Baritone.
Woodwind: Flute, Oboe, Clarinet, Alto Saxophone.
Percussion: Bells, snare drum (both included in a bell kit)
All instrumental music students typically have band or strings class twice a week on cycle days 2, 5, 7, and 10 for a half hour each day.
5th and 6th grade students may participate in both band and strings with the permission of their parents and classroom teacher. However, each student may only borrow ONE OPS instrument at a time.
